Students Selected For College Reporting Service

2006-06-23 / Community

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced that the following students have qualified for the College Plans Reporting Service: Andrew Butler, Richard Gustavson, Edward Keenan, Mary Kelly, Justin Kirschner, Alexander Kong, Daniel Ohngemach, Mark Pando, Deirdre Regan, Richard Tufano, Julianne Ungar and Melanie Wegener.

The selected students took the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and met requirements to enter the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program. With a Selection Index score of 203 or above, each of these student is among the 50,000 highest-scoring participants of some 1.4 million program entrants. Because these high performers have shown outstanding academic potential, they are now invited, through their schools, to be referred to two colleges or universities in the United States in which they are especially interested. There is no charge for this College Plans Reporting Service (CPRS), which is offered solely to encourage college officials to communicate directly with these scholastically able students about educational opportunities that may be available to them.

Of the more than 50,000 students being offered this service, about 16,000 will be named National Merit Program semifinalists, representing the top scorers in each state, and approximately 34,000 other high scores will be commended for their performance on the PSAT/NMSQT. Semifinalists and commended Students in the 2007 program will learn of their standing in September, when notification will be sent. Semifinalists will be the only students who will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for about 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards to be offered in 2007.
