During a springtime membership reception at DiSalvo Galleries on May 23, Winthrop-University Hospital participated in the installation of new officers charged to lead its Twigs volunteer organization. More than 70 Twigs members and supporters, along with outgoing president, Susan Williams-Furey of Garden City, welcomed fellow resident, Jennifer Miller, as the group's new leader.

Founded in 1967, Twigs, a branch of Winthrop's Auxiliary, has supported the myriad programs and projects at the Hospital. Since then, the group, which is sustained by countless Garden City families, has contributed funds toward the establishment of Winthrop's New Life Center and the Pastoral Care Program, among others. Currently, the Twigs are actively raising funds to support the Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center and the Child Life Program - Pediatric Project.

"For many years, this dedicated group of caring volunteers has committed its talents and energies toward the advancement of Winthrop's health care programs and state-of-the-art facilities," praised Daniel P. Walsh, Chief Executive Officer and President, Winthrop. "We applaud and gratefully appreciate the effort, time and resources the Twigs have selflessly offered to generously benefit the community's welcoming and world-class institution of healing."

Anyone interested in becoming a Twigs member, please contact Jennifer Miller at (516) 747-5546.
