Bucknell University conferred nearly 800 bachelor's and master's degrees during commencement ceremonies May 21. Degrees were awarded for studies in liberal arts and professional programs in engineering, education, management and music.

Among the gradues was Daniel Mancusi , Garden City, son of Vincent and Marian Mancusi, and a 2002 graduate of Garden City H S. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.

Garden City residents were among the 303 students who participated in Harverford College's commencement exercises on Sunday, May 14.

Four distinguished individuals in the arts, sciences, education and human rights were awarded honorary degrees: Lois Gibbs, executive of the Center For Health and Environmental Justice; Jane Golden Heriza, artist and founder of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program; Tavis Smiley, author, journalist and political and cultural commentator on public radio and television; and Kochiro Matsuura (Haverford Class of 1961), director general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Elizabeth A. Piastra, daughter of Ellen Palermo of Garden City and John Piastra of Red Hook, received a bachelor of arts degree in English with a concentration in gender and sexuality studies.

Amie M. Roe , daughter of Carol & Donald Roe of Garden City, received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology with a minor in Spanish.
