Congratulations to Garden City High School and Michelle E. Di Mattia and L aura Paraniello, the chosen delegates to represent the Ladies' Auxiliary of the William Bradford Turner American Legion Unit #265, at the Annual New York State-wide Empire Girls' State Program, to be held in June at SUNY Brockport.
Caitlin Mullins was chosen as the alternate.
The Empire Girls' State Program of the American Legion Auxiliary, is preparing once again to educate 350 high school juniors from across our state in the intricacies of government, by living government. By training our youth in basic ideals and principles of our system of government, we are assuring the future of our great country.
As the Girls' Staters create the mythical 51st State, they live together as self-governing citizens, sharing the knowledge of our political system, debating bills, holding rallies, running political campaigns, holding an election, then carrying out the duties and responsibilities of their elected or appointed officers.
The SUNY Brockport summer staff members are very excited about hosting the program again, and they are making plans for the girls' arrival and their week stay. This program will give the girls an idea of what government is all about, how much fun this experience can be, and how lifelong friendships may be formed.
On behalf of Mrs. Joan Nedelka, auxiliary president; Mrs. Pauline Rudkin, auxiliary vice-president, and Mrs. Rose Passidomo, Girls' State unit chairperson, we extend our warmest wishes to Michelle and Laura for a bright and successful future.
