Curriculum Coordinators Appointed
Stuart Dods, Mathematics and Computer 6-12 curriculum coordinator
At the May 15 Board of Education meeting, trustees appointed five district curriculum coordinators effective July 1. These position are newly designed. The following is a background summary on each of the coordinators.
Stuart Dods - Mathematics and Computer 6-12 Curriculum Coordinator
Stuart Dods has a B.A. and an M.S. in mathematics education and P.D. in educational leadership and administration from C.W. Post College. Mr. Dods has been head of he Mathematics and Computer Science Department since 1996, and a mathematics and computer science teacher at Garden City High School from 1985 to the present. He served as Computer Science Committee Chairperson and mathematics instructor at the Kew-Forest School from 1980 through 1985. Mr. Dods has permanent New York state certification in mathematics 7-12, School District Administration and School Administrator and Supervision.
Vera Gallagher - Special Education Department 6-12 Curriculum Coordinator
Vera Gallagher, Special Education Department 6-12 curriculum coordinator
Vera Gallagher has a B.S. in speech and hearing handicapped from Hofstra University, an M.S. in special education from Adelphi university, and a P.D. in school district administration from Long Island University. Ms. Gallagher was Coordinator of Special Education at Long Beach High School from 2002 to the present. She served as administrative assistant at the Mineola UFSD from 2001 to 2002, special education teacher in Mineola from 1989 through 2001, and special education teacher at Eagle Hill School, Huntington from 1981 through 1989. Ms. Gallagher has permanent New York State Certification in special education K-12, speech and hearing handicapped K-12, and School District Administration.
Ronit (Kitty) Klein - Guidance Department 6-12 Curriculum Coordinator
Ronit (Kitty) Klein has a B.A. in psychology from C.W. Post College, an M.S. in school counseling, and a P.D. in secondary education administration and supervision from St. John's University. Ms. klein has been District Director of Guidance and Counseling Services K-12 in the Manhasset Public School District since July 2004, District Director of Guidance Services in Locust Valley Central School District from July 2003 to July 2004, Assistant Principal of Pupil Personnel Services and Guidance at Norman Thomas High school from July 2001 to June 2003, and guidance counselor at the Academy of Environmental Science from November 1997 to June 2001. She has permanent New York State certification as guidance counselor, school district administrator, and school administration and supervision.

Edward Schmieder - English Department 6-12 Curriculum Coordinator
Edward Schmieder has a B.A., an M.A., and an M. Phil. in english literature from New York University and a Sixth Year Certificate in supervision and administration from the College of Staten Island. Mr.Schmieder has been English Department Head at Garden City High School since 1995, and served as English Department Chairperson from 1987 to 1995, and English teacher from 1978 to 1987 at Xaverian High School. He has permanent New York State certification in English 7-12 and school administration and supervision.

Douglas Sheer - Social Studies Department 6-12 Curriculum Coordinator
Douglas Sheer has a B.A. in social studies secondary education from SUNY New Paltz, an M.A. in sociology and an Advanced Certificate in education administration from C.W. post College. Mr. Sheer has been Social Studies Department Head at Garden City High School since 1992, served as Social Studies Chair at Harborfields High School from 1987 to 1992, and was a social studies teacher at Malverne High School from 1978 to 1987. He has permanent New York State certification in social studies 7-12, school district administration and school administrator and supervisor.
The district is continuing a rigorous search for the remaining curriculum positions that need to be filled.
