There is one Garden City happening that is coming up on Thursday, June 15 th and that will be the 38 th annual President's Coffee. This year it will be hosted by Grimaldi's Pizzeria, located at 980 Franklin Avenue, at 9 a.m. Invitations have been mailed to all the organizations in town to attend as guests of both Grimaldi's and the G.C. Chamber of Commerce. I can't tell you how important this event is to your organization as this is where you can announce your programs and fund raisers for the 2006-2007 season. Your dates will be announced in the Community Guide & Calendar of Events and this is where you can tell if your date conflicts with that of another group. You can discuss this problem and hopefully solve it so that folks in town who wish to attend both of the potentially conflicting events will not have to make a choice. Presidents: this is a win-win situation, so do make every effort to attend (or send your representative). The President's Coffee will be hosted on the main level (no stairs) and ample parking is provided in the rear of the building. For more information, call the Chamber at 746-7724, ext. 101.
There were big doings on Kilburn Road that were happy indeed. There was a Bridal Shower hosted by Michele Dyrland for her youngest daughter, and it was so well attended that the cars were lined up as though for a parade. Guests were ushered through an arch of flowers and tulle and one and all seemed to have a wonderful time. The "big day" will be in the fall and Mom even tried for the bridal colors in her annual plantings from the sidewalk to the front door. Oh, and by the way, it was also Mom's birthday. All in all, a happy day filled with love and fun for all.
Music filled the Cathedral of the Incarnation when the New York Staff Band (all brass) presented their annual concert along with their Band Chorus. The Chorus was composed of those who were also playing and the entire evening was wonderful. One tends to think of the Salvation Army ringing bells at Christmas and brass instruments playing only military-type music, but from the opening rendition of our national anthem to the closing "Rock of Ages," it was perfection and the Cathedral was packed. Watch for it next year and don't miss it.
Happy Birthday wishes go to Frieda Stark , who will celebrate her special day on the 5 th of June and also to Kay Hayes and Ginny LoSardo , both of whom share June 7 th as their special day. May all the lovely ladies have a wonderful day and a great year in which to enjoy both health and happiness with many more years to come.
I know it is a bit past the deadline, but you just might be able to attend the Annual Installation Luncheon for the G.C. Branch of A.A.U.W. The event takes place on Monday, June 5 th at noon with Nancy Hendrie , who will tell of her experience as founder of The Sharing Foundation that has done such wonderful work in Cambodia. Call Carol Rudy at 248-5080 and see if she can fit you in.
It seldom happens that a Bridge date is forgotten on the monthly Social Calendar of the G.C. Country Club, but the month of June was an exception. The Bridge chairlady has had her phone ringing since it came out (or didn't come out, as the case may be) so Muriel Urban called the club and YES - there will be the usual monthly Lunch/Bridge on Thursday, June 22nd so be sure to make your reservations.
Now that the warm weather has finally arrived - and let's hope that it stays - make the G.C. Historical Society and President Brian Pinnola happy by attending the Big Yard Sale on the Historic House's lawn and you can make yourself happy by getting a gem for your own collection. The date is Saturday, June 3 rd from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 109 Eleventh St. Offerings for sale include furniture, curios, lamps, yard decor, and much more. There will also be an opportunity to bring one of your "gems" and have it appraised by Ira Prilik of Prilik Galleries. What more could you ask for? I'll be looking for you, so do come for this special event.
Sal Catania and Tom Richmond have a wonderful list of Monday matinees lined up for you during the month of June so drop by the library at 1:30 p.m. on any Monday and enjoy. What a great service these two gentlemen perform!
I would like to leave you with a thought as we start this month and it will give you something to think about all week. "A clean house is the sign of a broken computer." See you next week and have a happy.
