Vacation Bible School At The Cathedral "Marketplace 29 A.D."
The Cathedral of the Incarnation will be holding its annual Vacation Bible School from August 21 to 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children ages 4 through 9 are eligible to attend. The theme is "Marketplace 29 A.D." The location will be on the south lawn of the Cathedral in the shade of the many beautiful trees which surround the church.
An exciting week of activities is planned for the children, who will learn first-hand what it was like to live in the days of Jesus' time. Each child will "live" with his/her "tribe" in a tent and, each day, the children will work in shops where they will make bricks, fisherman nets, sandals, embroidery and even musical instruments. Guest speakers will teach the children about Jewish and Christian traditions, and herbs and foods of the time. There will even be a petting zoo on the premises one afternoon so the children can learn hands-on about animals in biblical times.
This five-day experience of reliving biblical time events, occupations and relationships will acquaint the participating children with their Christian heritage. They will come to know how Christianity was a living relationship with God in the days when Jesus was teaching. The program will be under the direction and supervision of Ruth-Ann Collins, Canon for Christian Formation at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
The nominal fee for the week is $50 for the first child, $45 for the second child and a maximum of $125 per family. Drinks and afternoon snacks will be furnished. The participants need to bring a bag lunch. A rest time is planned for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade children so a rug or blanket will be needed.
