Barbie Lecture a Hit

2006-06-02 / Community

Bernie Kivowitz, former director of sales at Mattel Toys, displayed a replica of the original Barbie doll. It cost $3 when it was first sold in 1959. Today, an original has sold for $12,000. This was one of the many absorbing facts presented by Mr. Kivowitz at the library on May 25th. His lecture concerned Ruth Handler, the inventor of the doll, and how she changed the world of toys with her invention while making a great impact on the changing image of women. Funding for this program was provided by The Friends of the Library.
