Ruth von Rinteln Goubeaud Ernst, a 45 year resident of Garden City, New York, passed away among family at home on May 7, in Dunedin, Florida, after a short illness. She was 80 years old. As a youth she developed a keen interest in travel. Imbued by her maternal grandmother Maria von Rinteln, a High Duchess from Germany; she was fascinated by her grandmothers' travels in Victorian times through Prussia, Germany, Russia and France, as a young Royal Debutante. This interest prompted Mrs. Ernst to become qualified as a Registered Nurse, following which, she obtained employment with American Overseas Airlines (American Airlines). She was a member of the first American crews to venture to post World War II Germany and England; and is so honored with her colleagues, at the American Airlines Museum, Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Ernst also was a owner/breeder of St. Bernard dogs, an avocation that stemmed from working summers as a teen with her uncle, Charles Goubeaud, DVM; the principal investigator and discoverer of the Rabies Vaccine. During the Korean Conflict she married Dr. N.A. Ernst, Sr., a USAF officer and she accompanied him on his stateside deployment. At the end of the Conflict her husband established a Manhattan practice, and shortly thereafter they settled in Garden City, New York. She raised three Ivy League educated Physicians, and inspired them to become Innovators and Professors. In midlife, she returned to university and after was on the psychiatric staff of North Shore Hospital, Cornell Medical College, for over fifteen years. In later years she was a devoted grandmother, and traveled throughout England and Europe. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. N. A. Ernst, Sr.. She leaves sons Peter S. Ernst, M. D., Bruce R. Ernst, M. D. both of Dunedin, Florida. She also leaves N. A. Ernst, Jr., M.D., his wife Kirsten M., and grandchildren, Harrison P. vR. Ernst,and Victoria R. vR. Ernst, all of Garden City, New York. Mrs. Ernst is to be interred with her husband in the National Cemetery of Florida, Ocala; with honors accorded the spouse of a Senior Officer.

Eileen McQuire Cashman , age 95, a longtime resident of Garden City, passed away March 9 th after a short illness at her home in Lauderdale-by-the Sea, Florida with her loving family by her side. Born June 2 nd, 1910, Eileen graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City. On January 27, 1932 she married John A. Cashman in Bayside, N.Y. Their reception for 400 was held at the Garden City Hotel. They lived in Garden City for 50 years, raising their nine children here. They were married for 59 years before John passed away on August 13, 1991.

Mrs. Cashman was survived by all her nine children at her death; Vincent, wife Judy; Betty, husband William Popfinger; Eileen Elmer; Patsy, husband Jack Daut; Sheila, husband Mike Heaney; John, wife Nancy; Catherine, Michael and Peter, wife Sherry. Sadly, Sheila Heaney passed away two weeks after her mother's death. Mrs. Cashman was the oldest of six children and is survived by her youngest sister, Kitsy Lancisi of Massachusetts. Eileen is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cashman, along with her Garden City friends, did fund raising for Our Lady of Angels, a boys' orphanage in Syosset. She also gave hours of charity work for Mercy Hospital.

In Florida, she was a strong advocate of the harness racing industry, particularly at Pompano Beach Race Track. Many of the renowned drivers and trainers enjoyed dinners at the Cashman table. Eileen will also be remembered for her Terra Mar Island ladies' theme luncheons. She was a member of the Emerald Shamrock Society and enjoyed sponsoring the Boca Raton Music Society.

There will be a Memorial Mass in honor of Eileen and her daughter, Sheila Heaney, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church on June 10 th at 9:30 a.m.
