The Garden City Recreation Department's Dance Ensemble is pleased to announce its upcoming performance on Friday, May 26 th at the Herricks Community Center at 7:30 p.m. The Dance Ensemble is now open to dancers from the third grade and older who study at the Recreation Department's Dance Conservatory at Cluett Hall.

Tickets to the performance are $5. To purchase tickets, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

The Dance Ensemble is in addition to the girls' regular training, in keeping with our non-recital based program. There is no longer an audition process. We accept all students from our program who are willing to work hard and simply have the desire to dance! Please come and see the work the children have accomplished!

tickets available to nassau coliseum's "care bears"

The Recreation Department has secured tickets on consignment to Nassau Coliseum's performance of "Care Bears Live." This show will be on Saturday, June 17 th at 10:30 a.m. The tickets are located in section 208 and the cost of each ticket is $16.50.

These tickets are available to any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City. A maximum of six tickets may be purchased by any one family. For further information or to purchase tickets, please visit the Recreation Office in Village Hall.

program announced

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lesson for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The lessons will be held at the Garden City Community Park Tennis Facility and will run one evening a week. There will be a maximum of four players on a court. The dates, times and fees will be as follows:

youth basketball camp

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a Youth Basketball camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City from June 26 to 29. This camp will be held in the St. Paul's Field House under the direction of Pat Kennedy.

An instructional camp will be offered for boys and girls entering grades 3 & 4 in September from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and a session for boys and girls entering grades 5 & 6 in September, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a limit of 50 children for each session.

The purpose of this program is to provide instruction in self-improvement, basketball fundamentals, team play, group cooperation, and most important of all, FUN! The cost of this camp will be $60, which includes a T-shirt.

field hockey camp

The Recreation Department will conduct a Summer Field Hockey Camp for girls who are residents of the Village of Garden City, under the direction of Pat Kennedy.

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the week of July 17 to 20 on the soccer field at Community Park. This instructional program is offered to children entering grades 4 through 7. The session will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The camp will focus on individual skill development and the rules of the game, as well as the importance of playing together as a team. Equipment will be supplied. The cost of this program will be $75.

pre-school summer camp

The Garden City Recreation Department will be conducting a Pre-School Camp for girls and boys 3.5 to 5 years old who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. Children who attend this camp MUST be 3.5 years by the start of the session. This camp will be held at St. Paul's Cluett Hall from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The cost of each session will be $75. Arts and crafts, music, nature and stories will fill the one and one half hour class. The sessions are as follows:

youth baseball camp

The Recreation Department will again conduct a Summer Baseball Camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Village of Garden City.

The camp will be held Monday through Thursday during the weeks of July 17 to 20 and July 24 to 28, at Community Park. This instructional program is offered for boys and girls, aged 6 to 12, in two hour sessions for either one week or two weeks. Children who register for this program MUST be six by the start of the session. Sessions are held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for children 6 to 8 years old, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children 9 to 12 years old. The camp will focus on individual skill development, and the importance of playing together as a team.

Youngsters in each age category will be divided into appropriate skill levels and will receive group instruction. The cost of this camp will be $60 for one week.

mens' over 35 softball

Roster packages for the Garden City Recreation Department's Men's Over 35 Softball League are now available. This league plays on Sunday evenings. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:

1. Teams must be comprised of residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City.

2. All players must be over 35 years of age or turning 35 during the course of the season.

The fee for this league is $500, which includes games, balls and umpires. Application packages can be picked up at the Recreation Department in Village Hall. The completed roster package will be accepted until May 11 th or until 12 completed packages are received.

If you are a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, age 18 or over, who would like to play softball in one of the Recreation Department's softball leagues, call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 to put your name on our "player list." We sometimes have coaches who call looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address and phone number and we will keep your name on file for the team who is looking for extra players.
