Participants Welcome At Historical Flea Market
Bob Franz, chairman of the Garden City Historical Society's A.T. Stewart Flea Market, meets with Board and committee member Sally Schreier to review a period sofa that was donated for use in the Museum and a statue that is being consigned for sale at the June 3 Flea Market. You've been meaning to do it...clean out that upstairs room or part with items you can no longer use. Perhaps you'd like to take part in the Garden City Historical Society's community garage sale, A.T. Stewart's Flea Market, on Saturday, June 3. The Flea Market will be held on the Historical Society Museum's property, 109 Eleventh Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enthusiastic sellers are welcome to reserve their spaces now.
"This is a great way to have that garage sale you always wanted to, without the hassle of advertising," says Flea Market Chairman Bob Franz. "The Society will take the ads; you just bring your items on June 3."
To reserve a space and sell your own goods, call Kris Harder at 747-1774 for information. Eight-foot-square spaces can be reserved for $75, on a first come/first serve basis. Residents can partner with a neighbor or friend to purchase a space; apartment dwellers and homeowners are welcome to participate. Sellers are asked to bring their own tables and chairs. All participants are responsible for removing unsold items and cleaning their spaces at the end of the day.
And if selling just isn't for you, the Society is offering other options for participants:
For sale on consignment-the Society will sell your items at the price you designate. You receive two-thirds of the sale. For consignment information, please call Peggy Griffin at 873-9096, or Jill Mayer, 747-8759.
Donate items to the Historical Society for use in the museum or for sale at the Flea Market. Items are accepted at the Society's discretion, and the Society receives all the proceeds of the items sold at the Flea Market. For information on donating items, call Sally Schreier at 741-5167.
Do you have a treasured piece and you're not sure of its worth? Ira Prilik, a senior accredited appraiser of the American Society of Appraisers, from the well respected Prilik Galleries on Franklin Avenue will offer appraisals for a modest fee, which he will donate to the Society. The event will be a great day...with raffles and food available.
The Historical Society also reminds residents and visitors to our Village that the 240 artworks drawn by students in Grade K through 12 for our Children's Juried Art Contest, "Landmark Buildings of Garden City," are now on display at the Museum, 109 Eleventh Street. The Museum is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays until May 21; admission free. Please drop by and see the wonderful artwork - and, see you at the market!
