4th Grade Girls Maroon Team
On a rainy Sunday when many other teams had canceled games, a shorthanded 4th Grade Girls Maroon team faced a determined Hewlett team and came away with the win. Our defense of Katherine Pearson, Kristen Rasquin, Regan Marooney was relentless and kept the ball going the other way. The goalie work of Sage Fuller and Megan Cotter was again comprised of stellar saves and some very smart clears. Our attack of Caitlinn Riedell, Emily Quigley and Sara Ruhl made short work of the 2 pass rule and allowed us multiple attacks on the goal. The middies, Tara DeAngelo, Caroline Beaty and Kelly Punturo controlled the field for most of the game. It is hard enough to give 100% for the 48 minutes when the whole team is there, but something else again to do it with no substitutions. All the girls played the entire game and gave it their all. Great Job!
Boys Travel Baseball Team To Hold Car Wash
Garden City FIRE boys U12 Travel Baseball team will be holding a car wash on May 7th from 9am to 12 noon. The FIRE will be sending the team to compete in Cooperstown All Star Village this coming August against teams from around the country. As a part of attending the tournament, and as a learning experience, the boys are asked to pay for a portion of the event themselves and thus each team typically holds some sort of fundraiser.
The Tin Alley Grill on Stewart Ave (by the back entrance to Roosevelt Filed) has thrown their full support behind the boys efforts and has agreed to let the team use their parking lot / facility to hold the car wash on May 7th. The week prior to the event Tin Alley will also distribute flyers about the car wash to all their customers and they have also graciously agreed to also supply the essentials items (soap, towels, food for the boys - everything they need) so that all funds earned go directly to the boys fundraising efforts. There is no set cost for the car wash - any and all donations will be appreciated.
The FIRE hope you can come out to support the team by attending the car wash on May 7 anytime between 9am and noon. If you can not make the car wash but would like to support the team, the team will also be selling discounted subscriptions to 25 various magazine such as ESPN, Forbes, Golf Digest, Newsweek, Better Homes and more. Contact the team at 746-1698 for information on supporting the team this way. Thanks again to Tin Alley Grill and their support in our fundraising event. Hope to see you there.
