The U-10 Boys Scorpions won again last Saturday, April 22nd, bringing their Spring Season record to 3-and-0! On a cold, rainy day when most sports were cancelled due to inclement weather, the Scorpion boys kept warm by running fast, passing adeptly, shooting hard, and scoring successfully! They beat the Plainedge United 4-1.

TEAM-WORK!! The boys all pass to each other to move the ball towards a common goal - the Opposing Goal, that is! Striker Danny "Scoring-Machine" Simmons is seemingly unstoppable and so exciting to watch as he, with the perfect combination of finesse, speed and power, continues to drill the ball into the goal, scoring 3 more goals this game for his second "Hat-trick" in 3 games!

GC had control of the ball 75% of the time in the first half, with outstanding ball control and offensive passing by Midfielders Michael Catalano and Taylor Ricci. Despite great passing and several aggressive shots on goal by Dale Stasco, Drew Kiley, Brian Bingham, and Danny Simmons, the Scorpions couldn't score. GC Defenders Ryan Zarou and Kyle Zarriello didn't allow too many balls to get close to the goal, and those that did were saved by Goalie Robert Wotczak. Near the end of the first half, however, Plainedge broke away and got a successful shot off at the GC goal, to give Plainedge a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Dale Stasco moves the ball toward to goal with great control and speed.
Dale Stasco moves the ball toward to goal with great control and speed. At the start of the 2nd half the Scorpions were awarded a penalty kick and the Come-Back began! Dale Stasco blasted the ball at the goal, which went just sideways; Drew Kiley cleared it and passed backwards to an open Danny Simmons. Danny broke away with lightning speed, ran by the Plainedge defenders like a freight-train, and . . . BOOM! Goal! Score tied 1-1.

After another successful volley between Michael Catalano and Taylor Ricci, they passed to Forward Robert Wotczak who then passed to Danny Simmons. Ditching his defender, Danny took off, shifted into over-drive, left his opponents in the dust, and put another one in the goal! Score 2-1!

Drew Kiley gains control as Kyle Zarriello gets ready to defend. Drew Kiley was hot, making 2 strong shots on goal in a row that were saved by the now-tired Plainedge goalie. Taylor Ricci, Brian Bingham, and Dale Stasco each had great shots, which were also saved. Brian Bingham got control, dribbled and passed to Simmons; Danny pounded it in for his 3rd goal in a row and a hat-trick! Score 3-1, GC.

In the meantime, the Plainedge offense came alive and ganged-up on Defenders Ryan Zarou and Michael Catalano. Both Ryan and Michael had some great boots back to the midfield. Goalie Kyle Zarriello got shot at several times but allowed no goals.

Near the end of the game, Danny Simmons made another hard shot to the goal which bounced off the goal post; Robert Wotczak got the "rebound" and booted it in for another GC goal. 4-1, GC. In the last minutes of the game, both Taylor and Robert each had a beautiful break-away and shot at the goal, but both were saved.

Final score: GC Scorpions 4, Plainedge United 1. GO, SCORPIONS!!
