Seniors Connect With Students
Shirley Jessen and Roseanne Licitra advised their helpers Senior Connections, sponsored by the Garden City School District, celebrated Saint Patrick's Day at the high school. Under the guidance of Mrs. Pat Muller, Family and Consumer Science teacher, students and senior citizens baked Irish soda bread. The room was humming with Irish music as the breads were being mixed.
Once they were in the oven, guests played a quiz game with the winners being rewarded with candy. An Irish sing-a-long concluded the activities while refreshments were being served. Each guest returned home with an Irish soda bread.
Mrs. Ferrara's class joined the Senior Connections group and also baked breads. They measured, mixed the ingredients and baked their own breads. These were taken home to their parents.
The Saint Patrick's Day event is one of the highlights of the year. Events are held monthly throughout the district, many times with students interacting with their guests and other times performing for them. A bridge between generations is ongoing!
