Police Depts. Cooperate OnIllegal Alcohol Sales
Garden City Police Commissioner Ernest J. Cipullo has announced that the Garden City Police Department and the Hempstead Police Department have conducted two joint investigations in the Hempstead and Garden City areas in regard to reports of several establishments selling alcohol to minors, including children from Garden City. On April 13 and 20, Garden City and Hempstead detectives monitored 11 establishments to determine if they were selling alcohol to minors. The investigation resulted in the arrest of five subjects for selling alcohol to minors. Arrested were: a male, 19, from the Clinton Food Market; a male, 27, from the Pit Stop Convenience Store; a male, 22, from the Clinton Grocery; a male, 36, from the Vasquez Deli; and a male, 37, from the La Carinosa Deli. All five subjects were arrested for Unlawfully Dealing With a Minor, first degree.
The Garden City Police Department and the Hempstead Police Department initiated these investigations after both departments received information that youths from both Villages were buying alcohol from some of these establishments. The information came from concerned citizens, parents and police officers. The two departments shared the information that each one had gathered and together came up with a list of possible establishments that were selling alcohol to minors.
Commissioner Cipullo stated "These investigations are a great example of the working relationship between the Hempstead and Garden City Police Departments in the attempt to remove dangerous conditions that affect the health and safety of our children."
