For many women, one of the most anticipated signs of spring is the annual Women's Communion Breakfast at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. This year's event did not disappoint the large group who attended.
Members of the congregation, their family and friends started their morning in the church sanctuary, singing, praying and communing during a special service officiated by Pastor Jeff Browning.
The participants followed each other and the delicious smells as they journeyed to the next phase of the morning, breakfast. A number of men prepared a wonderful breakfast that included fresh fruit, a variety of baked goods and a tasty egg bake. Having the opportunity to enjoy a nice meal and the company of other women is one of the highlights of this event.
After breakfast, Carol Mittelstaedt shared her interesting background as a child growing up in England and some of her many adventures in reaching out to people throughout her life. Carol is the mother of three children and a pastor's wife. She has been engaged in a number of outreach efforts and has also worked as the Atlantic District Mission Society Coordinator for the Lutheran Church.
Peter Rudkin, Tom Laundrie, Rick Waters and Rolf Lohse worked hard in the kitchen
Using a New Testament passage as her launching point, Carol shared a number of humorous as well as poignant stories with the assembled women which illustrated different aspects of evangelism. She pointed out that there are many ways to reach people, including through hospitality, listening, love and prayer. Her message resonated with many of the women in the audience.
All who attended agreed that the breakfast, organized by Janice Waters, was a great event.
