Maundy Thursday Watch
The watchers gather after a long night. The Cathedral of the Incarnation has a traditional Maundy Thursday Watch following the 8 p.m. service at which the main altar is stripped and the sacrament is transferred to the Altar of Repose. Just as Jesus asked his disciples to watch with him in the Garden of Gethsemane, the congregation is asked to watch through the night at the Altar of Repose. The Altar of Repose in the transept of the church was adorned with greens and spring flowers to simulate a garden. This year the Cathedral Youth Group supported by the Director of Christian Education, Ruth-Ann Collins, kept the Watch until the morning. After the watch, they had breakfast in the undercroft of the Cathedral. All of the participants found the experience to be a very moving and memorable one.
The adult chaperones were still smiling in the morning. These participators are still awake after a very long night. Some of the group enjoy bagels for breakfast. |
