Horticultural Bus Trip
Ann Senchyshyn, the happy winner of the Bonsai plant
The Garden Department of the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead, who recently enjoyed a program on "Instant Bonsai" by Hal Mahoney, are now planning a Bus Trip on Tuesday, May 9 th that will be the conclusion of their Spring season. The tour will begin with the Queens Historical Society doing a historic and horticultural tour of the Flushing Cemetery established in 1853. There are many historic monuments there and the grounds are ablaze with flowering trees and a wide variety of Spring flowers.
This will be followed by a wonderful luncheon at the Caffe on The Green. The building was built by Rudolph Valentino as his summer beach house and following his death it was owned by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia as his summer Gracie Mansion. After that there will be a private tour of the Queens County Farm Museum that will include the 1772 Farm House, the outbuildings, and the farm itself. The land has been farmed since the mid 1600s.
The price of $82 per person (guests are $87 per guest) includes everything that will make the day complete. For information on the bus tour contact Muriel Urban at 747-0096. For information on membership in the Community Club call the club office Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
