Adelphi Conference On Autism
Adelphi University is pleased to host and co-sponsor with Advocates for Individuals with High Functioning Autism, Asperger's Syndrome and other Pervasive Developmental Disorders (AHA/AS/PDD), Asperger Foundation International (ASFI), The Cody Center for Autism, Fay J. Lindner Center for Autism, and YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilities, the conference "Issues in Independent Living for Adolescents and Adults on the Autism Spectrum," on May 6, at Adelphi University, Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, from 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. The conference draws together leading advocates, clinicians, and researchers to raise awareness about the autism spectrum, identify the needs of adolescents and adults with autism, and offer solutions to the challenges of independent living for such individuals. Area professionals, family members, friends, and individuals affected by the condition are invited to attend the conference.
The keynote address will be delivered by Liane Holliday Willey, Ed.D. Ms. Willey, an individual with Asperger Syndrome (AS), is an internationally respected presenter and writer on Asperger Syndrome and a researcher who specializes in the fields of psycholinguistics and learning style differences. The day's program will include 12 workshops and a panel discussion to improve the quality of life for those affected by the disorder.
