Easter Family Mass At The Cathedral
Father Theodore Bean blessing the children's favorite Easter eggs. On Easter Sunday, April 16, the 9:30 a.m. service was filled with children and parents and grandparents as well as many other parishioners who enjoyed the special Mass geared towards families with young children. Children had been invited to bring their favorite Easter egg to the service and enjoyed having them blessed with holy water by the Provost of the Cathedral, Father Theodore Bean. Father Bean's aim was not always accurate and so the children enjoyed being sprinkled too. Later in the mass, as the Easter offering and elements of bread and wine for the sacrament of Holy Communion were processed down the main aisle to be blessed at the altar, the children in the congregation joined the procession to be welcomed at the altar to observe the consecration of the bread and wine. At the end of the service, gifts of begonias to take home as a symbol of Christ's resurrection were distributed to the children. Finally, two Easter Egg Hunts were held on the North and South lawns of the Cathedral. One was for the younger aged participants and one for the older children. A surprise visit to the Easter Egg Hunts was paid by the Easter Bunny. The celebration of Jesus' resurrection was a joy filled occasion of all in attendance.
