Learning About Epilepsy

Puppets were incorporated into the epilepsy presentation.
Puppets were incorporated into the epilepsy presentation. On Monday, March 13 th, Ms. Fay Perry and Ms. Janet Romeo, representatives from the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island, presented a puppet show to children at Stewart School. The skit focused on a child having a seizure, and how his friend could help by staying calm and following some simple directions.

The children had an opportunity to ask questions about epilepsy, and were given a clear understanding of what to do if they found themselves in a situation with someone having a seizure.

The Kids On The Block program uses a creative and entertaining approach to educating and teaching children and the general public about epilepsy. Its overall goal is to reach thousands of children in their early years to establish a climate of acceptance and understanding of epilepsy, individuals with epilepsy and of disabilities in general.
