The GCAA 6th grade girls basketball team is closing out a solid Super League season against some very competitive teams. Heading into its final regular-season game today, Garden City was 9-2.

Its most recent victory was 24-16 over St. Rose last Saturday. In that game, Kimberly Ryan scored 10 points, Katie Trimmer had 6 points, Caitlin McGuinness scored 4 points, while Lauren Nuss and Megan Baded added 2 points each.

In other games, GCAA defeated Jericho, 27-7, following a one-month layoff. In that contest, Maggie Comiskey and Catherine Dickinson each scored 6 points, while Marisa Cameron and Christina Mangels chipped in with 4 points apiece.

Garden City defeated Long Island Lightning Lawnziak, 31-5. Megan Bader had 8 points and the entire team played great defense. Maggie Kiley and Jessie Stein had solid contributions.

Garden City's two losses were both to excellent teams. It lost to Triple Threat, 31-20. Lauren Nuss had 9 points while Kimberly Ryan added 6 points. After trailing by 13 points at halftime, the GCAA girls played a spirited second half and were within striking distance at one point against an athletic and talented AAU team.

In a tough, 23-20, loss to Lightning-Prisco 23-20, Catherine Dickinson, Kimberly Ryan and Julia Kiffel each had 4 points. Earlier in the year, Garden City defeated Lightning-Prisco, but on this day, the team couldn't buy a basket down the stretch despite having excellent looks.
