The Garden City High School Music Department has once again made sweet music by donating $1,319 to the Miracle Foundation. The proceeds were raised by the student marching band, directed by Brandon Psenicka, during its June performance of the national anthem before a Mets game at Shea Stadium.
This is not the first time the Music Department, which is chaired by James McCrann, has partnered with the Miracle Club to enhance its community fund-raising efforts. The vocal jazz ensemble and chamber choir serenaded Garden City students and parents at the Miracle Club's holiday fair. They also promote Miracle Club merchandise at spring concerts.
"We're delighted to support such a worthy cause," said McCrann. "Music has the power to bring people together. Our partnership has been rewarding for the students and the community."
McCrann recently orchestrated a successful band trip to Orlando, Florida for 292 talented GCHS music students. During their stay, the students performed six times at different venues throughout Disney World, including the evening Spectromagic Parade. "Experiences like this bring out the best in kids," said McCrann.
