Officer Mathers, Jacklyn Baymack and Maddy Condulis Mrs. Foehr's first-grade class and Ms. Mathers' third-grade class had a special guest at their last Reading Buddy session at Hemlock School. The students met Officer Sarah Mathers, a graduate of Garden City High School who is now a New York City police officer.

Officer Mathers read the students "Officer Buckle and Gloria" by Peggy Rathmann and answered the student's questions about her job. Officer Mathers also showed the students her bullet-proof vest and the handcuffs she uses to apprehend suspects. The students were proud to meet Officer Mathers, someone they consider a true hero in the community.
