LICM Adds Fun To Curriculum

The two classes participated in the Together around Long Island program where they visited the It's Alive, Sandy Island, Bubbles exhibits along with the popular Tot Spot. Two kindergarten classes from theHemlockPrimary Schoolin Garden City learned some valuable lessons recently. The first...learning is fun; the second, play is a critical component of learning. These important lessons were learned during a recent school trip to the Long Island Children's Museum (LICM). Along with their teachers the kindergartners participated in the Together around Long Island program where they visited the It's Alive, Sandy Island, Bubbles exhibits along with the overwhelmingly popular Tot Spot.
During their March 9th visit to LICM, students explored four of the museum's 12 interactive learning galleries. In the Together around Long Island program children learn why it's important for living things to work and play together through the exhibits they visit. In It's Alive children explore the natural environment ofLong Islandto see what makes our own community so special. SandyIslandis where students can shape a sand dune with wind or form a beach with wind. In the Bubbles gallery visitors can play and experiment with bubbles by stepping inside a giant bubble or try blowing bubbles within bubbles.At Tot Spot, one of the most popular exhibits, young visitors can crawl and climb, wiggle and jump in an environment that focuses on their imagination skills.

The Long Island Children's Museum is open to the public Wednesday - Sunday10am-5pmduring the school year and Tuesday - Sunday10am-5pmduring June and July. In addition to the 12 exhibit galleries, LICM boasts a state-of-the art theater offering live performances and films for family entertainment.
