Reading Buddies Meet Police Officer
     Mrs. Foehr%27s first-grade class and Ms. Mathers%27 third-grade class had a special guest at their last Reading Buddy session at Hemlock School. The students met Officer Sarah Mathers, a graduate of Garden City High School who is now a New York City police officer.

High School Makes Sweet Music
     The Garden City High School Music Department has once again made sweet music by donating $1,319 to the Miracle Foundation. The proceeds were raised by the student marching band, directed by Brandon Psenicka, during its June performance of the national anthem before a Mets game at Shea Stadium.

Ambrosino Meets ValentinesFor Vets Students
     Hempstead Town Councilman Edward Ambrosino assembles with students from the Homestead Elementary School in Garden City for its Valentines for Vets program which the Town instituted in 2001. Through this program students create valentines to send to veterans in local VA hospitals. The councilman collects the valentines and brings them to a veteran's organization which delivers them to the hospitalized veterans. Many of these men and women don't have families and it means so much to them to know that the young children appreciate them for the sacrifices they have made for our nation. Middle School Competes In Math Competition
     This year, for the first time, the Garden City Middle School participated in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC 8). The high school has participated in the AMC 10 and AMC 12 for several years.
