George E. Mallouk
George E. Mallouk, 93, a long time Garden City resident and contributor to the community, died at home on March 15, 2006. He was born in Brooklyn in 1912, and was an alumnus of Blair Academy, Roanoke College, and the Paris Institute of Political Studies. Before World War II, he lived for six years in Cairo, Egypt, where he was a partner in a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership. He returned to Brooklyn to work in the family business, Elias Mallouk Realty Corporation. In 1942, he was drafted into the Army, where he advanced to the rank of Captain at the 2 nd Army Headquarters. After the war, he became president of the company, and moved with his then-young family to Garden City in 1950. He moved the company to Garden City and worked there until his retirement in 1991. George made many contributions to his community, church, and charitable organizations. He served in several leadership capacities at the Garden City Community Church, most recently as the honorary chair of the 75 th anniversary celebration of the church. He served as trustee of Winthrop University Hospital for 20 years, and was later an honorary trustee. He was also an honorary trustee of Lemoyne-Owen College. He is remembered lovingly for his uncommon kindness, generosity, and unflagging good cheer by his family and his many friends. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Marmom Mallouk. They had five sons, John of Okeechobee, FL, Jeff of Princeton, NJ, William (decesed), James of Breckenridge, CO, and Thomas of State College, P, and six granddaughters, Megan, Katie, Sarah, Laura, Amy, and Juliet Mallouk. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 25, at the Garden City Community Church, Stewart Ave. and Whitehall Blvd., Garden City. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that contributions be made to Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola, NY, or to the Garden City Community Church.
Linda Ellen Teplan Linda Ellen Teplan , daughter of Anita Cumming, sister of Edward Cumming both of Garden City, passed away after battling breast cancer. Funeral services and interment were in Budapest, Hungary on March 20th. A local memorial service for Linda will be held Wednesday March 29, 2006 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Cathedral Avenue, Garden City. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Pat Cairo Family Foundation, 40 Parkwold Drive West, North Valley Stream, NY 11580.
Joyce White Moore Mrs. Joyce White Moore , age 79, died Monday, March 13, at Southeast Georgia Health System, in Brunswick, Georgia. Mrs. Moore was a native of Brooklyn, New York, and attended Garden City High School and Bennington College. She worked as a broker in the insurance industry and a book publisher for Charles Scribner and Sons. She was also a stay at home mom who loved her family, animals, and travel, and she moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia, 23 years ago. She was a member of the Coastal Historical Society where she was a former lighthouse docent, a member of ASPCA, Wolf Haven, Tiger Haven, Cousteau Society, Ocean Conservancy, Nature Conservancy, Friends of Sapelo, Smithsonian Institute, and a World Vision Sponsor. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, David L. Jr. and Anne E. Moore, Basking Ridge, N.J., Peter T. and Carol A. Moore, Camilla, GA, and Stephen J. and Laura S. Moore, Garden City, N.Y., as well as four grandchildren, David L. Moore, III, Jersey City, N.J., Brigid L. Moore, Caitlyn B. Moore, and James T. Moore, all of Garden City, N.Y. A Memorial Service was held Friday, March 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Church on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Father Alex Barrow officiated. She will be placed in a niche next to her husband, David, at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax, VA 22038-1132. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home of Brunswick, Georgia was in charge of all arrangements.
