In the late night hours of Tuesday, March 14th, Garden City Volunteer Firefighters were called to assist the New Hyde Park Fire Department with a large blaze at a 500'x500' Wooden Pallet Company located at Highland and Guildford Avenues. Garden City's Volunteer Firefighters responded with an Engine Company and Heavy Rescue unit to the scene. Volunteer Firefighters, under the direction of Fire Chief Edward Moran, faced high winds, 30 foot flames, dropping temperatures, and exploding propane tanks as the blaze was fought. In addition, firefighters were faced with high piles of wooden pallets that were burning as well as structures and vehicles in the complex. Garden City firefighters remained on the scene for approximately 3 hours to bring the blaze under control.
