Cars Gear Up For Chamber'sEaster Parade
Classic car in last year's parade Owners of authentic old motorcars - 1890 - 1981, to include antique, classic and special interest models, are gearing up and readying their prized vehicles for the Garden City Chamber of Commerce's 51st annual Vintage Car Parade set for Easter Sunday, April 16. The parade will step off at 1 p.m. on Franklin Avenue at Tenth Street with the Kiwanis Easter Bunnies in the lead.
Spectators are welcome to preview the cars at the staging area in Parking Field 9E between Tenth and Eleventh Streets before the parade, There, the Banjo Rascals will entertain at 11 a.m. until parade time. They will present again on Seventh Street at the Texaco Station where they will continue with their toe-tappin' tunes during the parade. The Kiwanis Easter Bunnies will meet and greet the younger set with lollipops as the parade passes by. The spectacle, which began in 1956, has become a traditional Easter Sunday event, drawing families and vintage car buffs and spectators throughout the metropolitan area.
The Chamber gratefully acknowledges Automobile Club of New York for their provision of dash plaques for car owners; State Bank of Long Island, contributing sponsor of the Banjo Rascals; Chris Smalley, Chamber director and chairman, along with a committee of able volunteers. Car owners should note that pre-registration is necessary and will be limited. (Owners who participated last year will be mailed registration forms.)
