Adelphi University Hosts Press Day
Adelphi University will host 300 high school journalists from Nassau and Suffolk counties for Press Day 2006 on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 in Adelphi Ruth S. Harley University Center Ballroom, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The event, which is free and open to the public, recognizes excellence in high school journalism and provides high school students and novice journalists with the opportunity to hear from distinguished journalists.
The program will feature the Quill Award presentations for 12 categories, including most outstanding high school newspaper and reporter, and a keynote address by Lorna Tychostup, senior editor, news and politics editor, and foreign correspondent of the Chronogram Magazine, who will speak on "The Future of News in the Age of Entertainment" at 11:45 a.m. Her work centers on war, peace, democracy, Islam, and feminist issues. During her career, she has traveled to Iraq to write and photograph historical moments, such as the Iraqi election. She has been interviewed extensively, on both radio and TV, including FOX's "Hannity & Colmes" and NBC's "Nightly News with Tom Brokaw."
