The Garden City Community Theatre's 2006 original musical production, Empire State 10118, will be performed in Gardner Hall at the Garden City Community Church. The shows are scheduled for March 17, March 18 and an afternoon matinee on Sunday March 19. Tickets are on sale now. The musical, written by Guy Milone Jr. is about business competition in the late 1940's, when widgets were widely used. What's a widget???

There once was a time, back in the late 1940's, when the Empire State Building was not only the crown jewel of Manhattan but also the tallest building in the world. A simpler time, a time of innocence, a time when Johnny, an eager young man from Kansas, with the ink still wet on his engineering school diploma could get a job at The Nice Company-- the second largest widget company located on the 53rd floor of the tallest building in the world. The largest widget company in the world, Finch Industries, also has its home office in the Empire State Building, but that company is in a state of turmoil.

Phineaus and Phillip Finch, brothers and Co-Presidents of Finch Industries, are hopelessly adrift in their dirigible in parts unknown after a failed docking at the Empire State Building. Their wives, Eleanor and Harriet, an evil sister duo that relished the idea of taking over Finch Industries after their husband's disappearance and quickly appointed themselves as interim Co-Presidents. Eleanor and Harriet are intent on destroying their only real competition, The Nice Company, by hiring top engineers from around the globe charged with the task of creating, Goliath, the perfect widget.

Mr. Nice, President of The Nice Company, hires Johnny to be the company's head engineer and Johnny is also charged with the task of designing the world's greatest widget. Anxious to defeat their rival widget company, Eleanor and Harriet plant a spy at The Nice Company, and also threaten their workers in an attempt to increase production of widgets. Come and see the show to find out how things turn out!
