Kathleen Rice Sworn In As First Female District Attorney
On January 9, Kathleen Maura Rice was sworn in as the first female District Attorney for Nassau County. The Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City was the setting for this gala event. The Museum was filled with dignitaries and many friends.
Kathleen is one of ten children, six girls and four boys. Her place in the family was #7. She grew up in Garden City on Nassau Boulevard, attended St. Joseph’s grade school and then Garden City Junior and Senior High. Her parents, Laurence and Christine live in Garden City. Kathleen remembers her roots with fondness – and she remembered to invite people who were important in her life growing up. Some old time friends of her family in attendance were: Eileen Gallagher, Libby Huschel, Ed Murphy, Jean & Tony Earley. Dr. Annie Kelly, and people from her school days: Carol Rilling who taught her English in the Junior High and Pat Dolan who was the nurse at the High School. She didn’t forget her merchant friends from Nassau Boulevard; Adelphi Deli, Personal Touch and Lougie the shoemaker. Kathleen remembered how important these people were in her life and was happy that they could share this important day with her.

To anyone who was there, the event was specular. We got to see “a little girl’s dream” come true. She was proud to have grown up in our neighborhood and she told us. Her father held the family bible on which she placed her right hand on for the swearing in.
Kathleen will give 100% of herself to this endeavor as she has done with everything. As Robert A. McDonald, Esq., the Master of Ceremonies, and a Criminal Attorney who is a friend of Kathleen’s reminded his colleagues - “She is hard working, one of the best and she enforces the law.”
