Registration began on January 28 for "Chocolates with Marie" for Grades K-5, to be held on Feb. 4. The program for Grades K-2 will be held at 9:30 AM, and the program for Grades 3-5 will be held at 11:00 AM. Check with a Children's Librarian for availability.
Registration starts Feb. 4, at 9:00 AM in the Children's Room for "Chocolates with Marie" for Garden City residents, ages 2 1/2 -5 (no Kindergarten), with an adult. Sign up for one session, either at 9:30 AM or 11 AM. The program will be held on Feb. 11.
The 2006 Winter Reading Program "Get Wrapped Up in Reading" ends tomorrow, Feb. 4. All children who completed the requirements received an invitation to a special program to be held on February 4 at the library. This Egyptian program will include games, trivia, a craft project and a snack. Three special prizes will be given away. RSVP 742-8405, ext. 216. Congratulations to all those children who completed this wonderful program and their parents who encourage them to read!
Children of Garden City can tour the Solar System and the Milky Way and even visit the moon as part of the Winter Recess program, "The Space Road Show" with Lee Ognibene, to be held on Feb. 21 at 11:00 AM. Tickets to be distributed starting at 9:00 AM when the library opens on Feb. 11. Do not miss this exciting astronomy show.
The winner of the Winter Reading Club's first guessing game was Patrick Ilardi. The jar held 134 Hershey Kisses and Patrick's guess was 143. Congratulations Patrick!
Registration for storytimes began on January 9. Registration is ongoing and can be done in person at the library, or online through your computer at www.gardencitypl.org. Special Needs Children are welcome with an adult.
Registration for Book Discussions began on January 9 and is ongoing. Registration must be done in person in the Children's Room. The Winter/Spring schedule is as follows:
Chapter Chat, for children presently enrolled in Second Grade. Program is forty-five minutes. Wednesdays at 3:45 The remaining sessions are: February 15, and March 15. The book to be discussed on Feb. 15 is "Stanley in Space", by Jeff Brown.
New Friends in Books Club, for children presently enrolled in Third Grade. Program is forty-five minutes. Wednesdays at 3:45 The remaining sessions are: March 8, and March 29. The next book to be discussed is "Gooney Bird Greene", by Lois Lowry.

February 25, Bring Your Best Friend and Discuss a Book, 11-12:30, Registration began on January 28; March 25, Vote for the very first 3 Apple Award - A NYS Children's Choice Award! Bring Your Favorite Fiction Book to Discuss 11:00-12:00, Registration Date February 25. The book for discussion on February 25 is "Help! I'm a prisoner in the Library!", by Eth Clifford.This book is on the Accelerated Reader list for both Stratford and Stewart Schools.

Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
