Garden City Senior News Senior Citizen Trips Planned
The Garden City Recreation Department has booked the following trips for our Village resident seniors. Details follow each trip.
Wednesday, March 29 - Luncheon Theatre at Milleridge Cottage - $39.50 per person. Travel by Recreation bus to the Milleridge Cottage, where you will enjoy lunch and a performance of “Kiss Me Kate”, made possible by Plaza Theatrical Productions, Inc. Tickets may be purchased in the Recreation Office and must be paid in full at the time of the reservation. Please make the check payable to the “Inc. Village of Garden City.” Tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis for this event.
Thursday, May 25 - Join Prime Time Travel on the “Queens Experience” - $87 per person. You will travel by coach bus to the Noguchi Museum and Gardens to view a vast collection of Japanese Sculpture. Lunch will be enjoyed at the Water’s Edge, a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Then you will visit the Queens Museum, which includes an extensive collection of Tiffany glass. Reservations can be made by visiting the Recreation Office in Village Hall by February 12 th and leaving a $10 deposit made payable to Prime Time Travel.
Thursday, June 15 - Ellis Island - $74 per person. This tour will visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, with its many exhibits and memorial wall. Prime Time Travel will provide the trip by coach bus. On return from the Island, you will enjoy dinner in Little Italy. Reservations can be made by visiting the Recreation Office in Village Hall by February 12 th and leaving a $10 deposit made payable to Prime Time Travel.
Thursday, September 14 - Prime Time Travel will take you to enjoy a day touring Montauk - $61 per person. You will enjoy a wonderful lunch at Gurney’s Inn and then the coach bus will take you on a guided tour of Montauk. Reservations can be made by visiting the Recreation Office in Village Hall by February 27 th and leaving a $10 deposit made payable to Prime Time Travel.

Yoga Over Fifty
Our winter session of Yoga Over 50 will begin on Thursday, February 16. This program is open to adults over 50 years of age who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will meet for twelve weeks from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in St. Paul’s Cluett Hall. The cost of this program is $60.
Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable.
To register, pick up an application at the Recreation Office in Village Hall. You can also make your own by listing your name, address, phone number, birth date, and the class for which you are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department at 351 Stewart Avenue. Please make all checks payable to the “Inc. Village of Garden City.”

Monday, February 6 th - improving your posture, maintaining your strength. Lisa Nathanson, physical therapist and Feldenkrais practitioner will discuss ways to help you find your body’s natural alignment to allow for efficient movement with comfort and ease.
Monday, February 13 th - a tale of two kidneys. The more informed you are, the better you can protect your body against renal disorders. This workshop will provide you with a better understanding of kidney functions and will be led by a nurse specialist from the North Shore LIJ Health System.

Monday, February 27 th - “ line dancing” - Put on your dancing shoes and join the fun! Fran and Richard Gong are back again to lead dances everyone can easily learn and enjoy...No partner needed! Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
Monday, March 6 th - “behind the scenes’ - We welcome back John Ellis Kordes who will join us to share some of the fascinating stories behind many of the photographs in his new book, “Visions of Garden City.” Afterwards, Mr. Kordes will be available to sign copies of the book.
Monday, March 13 - “TORPEDOED AT SEA” - a story of survival. Our own Barbara Wilson, longtime Garden City resident, will share with us the incredible experience she had as a young women shortly before World War II.
All seniors aged 60 and over who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are invited to attend these free programs. All programs will take place during our Senior Recreation Group meeting on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Garden City Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane unless otherwise stated. Senior Citizen Tennis Time
The Community Park Tennis Center offers special times for “seniors only” tennis play. During these times, the cost for one hour of play is $15. This time is made available for any senior aged 60 or older that is a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City.
