St. Joe’s 6th Grade Girls CYO

“The Shock”

St. Joseph’s 6 th grade girls CYO basketball team, the Shock, finished an outstanding 2005-2006 season this past Sunday, with a thrilling O/T victory vs. a very physical and bigger (as usual) St. Rose team. With the situation looking bleak because of many on he team fouling out due to such aggressive play, the shock were down to 5 players but that did not deter them. They stepped it up even more as every player on the team contributed to this team victory.

Since being elevated from “C” to “B” division this year the team responded well. After starting off the season slowly at 3-4, they finished winning their last 5 games of the year to wind up at 8-4, just one game shy of the playoffs. The “Megans”, Harney & Bader, were as tough as any two players in the league with their rebounding, defense and scoring. Olivia Giordano’s defense and pure hustle was truly an asset to the team. Liz “Tiger” Adrian played better every single game and won the team’s 6 th player award. Kathryn (I’m going to steal the ball) Montgomery came back from an injury to play superb. Tatum McGloughlin was lightning on the court. Christina Capetola’s game tying basket in the last seconds of the final game was tremendous. She was the quietest, yet toughest, player on the squad. Catherine McTiernan was phenomenal all year. Point guard and leader jessica Stein could not have made her coach any prouder.

More importantly, the girls carried themselves with class in every game. They played as a team and had fun doing so. You all made your parents,a nd coaches, very proud. We will miss playing hoops, but cannot wait until next year! Congratulations!
