Women’s Wednesday Night Platform League - Winter Season

We still have some openings for those interested in playing in the women’s Wednesday night platform league winter season. It is a lot of fun and great exercise. Beginners are welcome, instruction and equipment is provided. Play is from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will begin on January 25, 2006. For more information, please call Steve Espey at 483-2525.

Mixed Doubles Tennis Party

A “Mixed Doubles Tennis Party” is being held at the community Park Tennis Center on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 8 p.m. The cost for the evening’s festivities is only $30 per couple and includes the court time, balls, food and refreshments. Play is in a round robin, just for fun format. To sign up for this great night at tennis please call Community Park at 483-2525.

Named Pre-Season All American

Local High School Baseball Player, Matthew Colantonio, Named 2006 PUMA Pre-season All-American Matthew Colantonio, a Junior at Chaminade High School in Mineola, and a resident of Garden City, has been named a 2006 PUMA Baseball Pre-season High School All-American. PUMA utilizes Baseball Factory and Team One Baseball to locate the top high school baseball players from across the United States when selecting their Pre-season All-Americans. Professional scouts from Baseball Factory and Team One Baseball select players based on an outstanding performance at a previous baseball event. Baseball Factory and Team One Baseball joined forces in 2004 and together they worked with over 3,000 top high school baseball players from across the country in 2005.

Matthew Colantonio, a catcher at Chaminade High School, hopes this nomination will propel him to a successful college baseball career. Matt will travel to Tucson, Arizona and the Kino Sports Complex, Spring Training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, in order to participate in the PUMA Pre-season All-American Tournament, January 13 - 15, 2006.
