Police Report:Mischief and Mayhem

Congratulations to Sgt. Bartkowski of the Garden City PD and Assistant Chief Casey of the Garden City FD who were both honored recently by the Nassau County Police Reserves as a result of their rescue of an elderly couple- particularly an elderly woman, at the scene of a car accident and fire at the Nassau Boulevard train station area on November 15.The woman was trapped and unconscious in her car, after her husband escaped, and a fire broke out in the rear of the car with gas leaking and a live wire down from a pole nearby. The two men risked their lives to remove this woman from the car, resulting in the saving of her life...On December 21, PO Becket responded to the scene of a 2-car accident at 4:58 p.m. at Stewart Avenue. A 17-year-old female, the driver of one car, left the scene to go to work and her brother stayed there. The driver of the other car remained at the scene. Her brother, a 19-year-old Floral Park man, later alledgedly hit and pushed PO Becket, who sustained a back injury, and then resisted arrest when he was charged for harassment. He was then charged with harassment and for resisting arrest. His sister was issued a ticket for leaving the scene of a property damage accident... On January 8, 2:20 p.m., a 26-year-old Oceanside woman allegedly took a $98 Johnny Was shirt from Lord and Taylor, Franklin Avenue... Unknown persons removed a 2 K pair of diamond earrings from an envelope left by UPS at a Wellington Road residence on January 5...PO Wedra arrested a 20-year-old Merrick male for alleged DWI -drugs- and for the unlawful possession of marijuana, and for tinted windows, at 1:32 a.m. on December 31...Between January 1 and 11, on Meadow Street, Ash Street, and on Wickham Road, cars were found ransacked and ornaments were found missing... A 22-year-old male was charged with harassment after he allegedly choked his 51-year-old father at a Garden City residence on January 8 at 9 p.m...A 51-year-old Williston Park woman allegedly took a $148 Lafayette shirt, a $598 Lafayette skirt, an $89 Ralph Lauren shirt and a $99 Jones NY shirt, at Lord and Taylor, on January 4...Someone stole a wallet containing credit cards, keys, and a jacket from an unsecured locker at the NY Sports Clubs , Franklin Avenue, on January 5...A 20-year-old Garden City male violated an order of protection on January 4 and was charged with criminal contempt 2nd degree...On January 5, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., a seatbelt stop was conducted on Clinton Rd. there were 10 tickets for adult restraint violations, 1 for child restraint, 2 for cell phone, 1 for tinted windows and 2 for miscellaneous...

A booster was used to extinguish a car fire on Stewart Ave./Hampton Rd. on January 6...A car hit a tree causing fluids on the road at Kingsbury Rd./Wetherill Rd., on January 6... A DJ using a smoke machine at a Sweet Sixteen party being held at the Nassau County Bar Association, Fifteenth St, on January 7, unknowingly set off an alarm there...An odor of natural gas occurred at a Maxwell Rd. house on January 10. It seems a new stove was the cause of the problem and the owner was advised to call a plumber...Water leaked out of a furnace and on to the basement floor of a Poplar Street house on January 10...
