Resident Electors' Meeting January 17, 2006

The 10-member Garden City East Nominating Committee has selected Peter A. Bee as the candidate for the position of Village Trustee for another two-year term and Laura Brown as its nominee for the Garden City School Board of Trustees for a three-year term. Both candidates will be placed in nomination at the January 17, 2006 annual Resident Electors' Meeting to be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Stewart School auditorium. A resident Elector of the East is any resident who lives in the eastern section of the Village east of the center of Franklin Avenue.

Based on the interviews that both candidates had with the Nominating Committee, the committee was unanimous in that both candidates have all of the credentials that are absolutely important for each of their respective positions. Peter Bee has served on the Board of Trustees since 1993 and has a proven record of excellent service to the residents of the East in many roles over the years. Laura Brown, although she will be new to the school board, has had extensive professional and personal experience dealing with local and village-wide school issues and activities.

Members of the Nominations Committee included Gerhardt Muller (chairperson), Maureen Clancy, James Carney, Hal Hecken, Sue Ellen Davis, John Pittoni, Janet Kenny, Nancy Fredericks, Frederick McGovern, and Katie Colavito.

Should any resident elector wish to place in nomination any other candidate for either position, that resident elector need only present a petition bearing the proposed candidate's name and signed by 15 resident electors of the East (including addresses) at the January 17, 2006 meeting. Should that happen, a run-off election will be held in February, and the winner of that election will become the Community Agreement's candidate in the Village election to be held in March.

Immediately following the Resident Electors' Meeting, the Eastern Property Owners' Association will conduct it's general meeting featuring a presentation from Garden City Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Fiersen. Dr. Fierson will present his goals for the district and residents will have an opportunity to ask questions. Residents will also hear reports from Village, Library and School officials, EPOA officers and directors.
