First-Graders Cap Lesson With Play
Corey Laisure and Margaret Minett Throughout the month of November, Mrs. Foehr’s first-grade class at Hemlock School studied the history of the Thanksgiving holiday. They read stories depicting the first Thanksgiving between the pilgrims and the Indians and how the traditions have stayed the same for some and changed for others. Through the literacy-based program, they read, discussed and compared different versions of Thanksgiving celebrations.
On November 18 th, Mrs. Foehr’s class performed a Thanksgiving play entitled “The Animals’ First Thanksgiving.” Family and friends who attended the show expressed pride for the student’s hard work and dedication. Performing this play enabled the children to use their verbal, visual and expressive abilities. They read, memorized and performed their individual parts using specific word choice and voice.
