A Word From The Publisher

We're in the final days of shopping now with the holidays just around the corner in a week or so. We want to remind everyone to keep local shopping in mind. This is the time of year that makes or breaks local businesses in terms of their revenues, and they would appreciate seeing your faces!

It also helps keep your own property taxes down, as a healthy commercial district contributes mightily to village and school taxes. Don’t be confused. In spite of its use of a Garden City address, the Roosevelt Field shopping mall is not on the Garden City tax rolls. With the exception of the office buildings on the west side of the property, the rest of Roosevelt Field pays taxes to the Uniondale school district and the Town of Hempstead.

We received a press release this past week from Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy who also suggests that as we celebrate the holidays this year, we should remember those people in need, especially those who suffered from the natural disasters such as the tsunami and the hurricanes in New Orleans and the South this year. She suggests that we all take time out to volunteer for a community organization or to contribute to a local food drive or to the U.S.Marines Toys For Tots program.

In this new year, it certainly would be great if all of us could strive to take more actions to help others, in addition to our prayers; thanks for the suggestion, Congresswoman!
