Christmas is getting closer every day and if the SNOW keeps coming we may soon be hearing sleigh bells and they won’t be just on Santa’s sleigh either. The Christmas trees have all been lit and the carolers have already been out serenading folks. You now have only eight more days to finish your gift buying, wrap it, get your cards out (I know someone who hasn’t even bought the cards yet), finish your decorations (I told you to do that when we had the warm spell), and catch your breath before the big day is here. Garden City is awash with Christmas Luncheons, parties and dances and welcomes to Santa and that shows what a wonderful spirit there is in this town. One well placed gentleman once told me that Garden City is a Party Town so just relax and enjoy - he was right.

The Women’s Club of the Garden City Country Club did their Christmas up just right this past week and enjoying the get together as well as the food were Peggy Mumm, Claire Burns, Rosemary Going, Alice Melkonian, Jill Brizzi, and Connie Klemanowicz. There was a mini Bowling Reunion as some of these ladies also met with Lillian Berryman, Margaret Maguire, Binnie Enrico, Ernie Zarcone, and Dorothy Candiotti - all former bowlers.

The Garden City Seniors Duplicate Bridge Club held their Christmas Dinner and Bridge Party at the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant on December 8th and they all enjoyed a good dinner and hopefully a good round of bridge to celebrate the holidays. Judy Radocy was in charge and Michele Weisburg was in charge of reservations. I hear that it was a great success and a good time was had by all.

The Garden City Branch of A.A.U.W. held an old-fashioned holiday party at the Garden City Library for their December Brunch Meeting and with Susan Cioni and Alberta Maggio in charge of refreshments I am sure that it was a great success. I hear that they can’t wait for the January Branch meeting as Chairman Jean Repetto has arranged for John Ellis Kordes, our Village Historian, to present slides of the Village’s Beginnings to the present day. The big date will be Monday, January 9th. John has a new book out and I’m sure you will be able to pick up an autographed copy at the meeting. It’s a winner!

It has not all been parties in town either. Bob Riedy gave a talk on “Isis in Greece and Rome” for a Study Group of the L.I. Society of the Archaeological Institute of America recently and hosted the meeting too. It sounds very interesting as history always is and we can all learn so much about today by studying the past.

Happy Birthday wishes go to Willa Ward, who will be celebrating her special day on the 17th of this month. Joe Impara will also celebrate his Birthday on December 24th and George Rivara will do ditto on the 25th. I wonder if that means they only get one slightly bigger gift or many more small ones. I think folks who have birthdays on big holidays usually get short changed. However for all of the celebrants - a very big Happy and healthy Birthday with many more to come filled with good health and much happiness.

Happy Wedding Anniversary wishes go to Helen and Emil Gentile, who will celebrate their 53rd on the 21st and to Eileen and Frank Waldron, who will be celebrating their 56th Anniversary just around now. May all of you have a great day and many more years of wedded bliss and enjoy it in health and happiness.

‘Tis the season to be giving and there are so many good causes out there that you can contribute to. Many have asked for a special end of the year contribution as things are as tight for them as they are for us. Just remember that your check does not have to break the bank as a small check from many people adds up to a sizable donation.

In the past folks have sent the fronts of their Christmas cards to St. Jude’s but this year they have asked a donation equal to what you would have spent on postage sending your card fronts or Campbell’s labels. They appreciate your response to the previous request fort card fronts, but they said it was so great that they are literally buried in cards right now. They thank you for your response and you can send a check or labels to St. Jude’s Ranch for children, 100 St. Jude Street, P.O. Box 60100, Boulder City, Nevada 89006-0100.

And now - Hang up the holly and don’t forget the Mistletoe - you never know who will come to see you.
