James Garth Gray, 92, of Utica, a long time resident of Garden City, passed away on All Souls Day, Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at Heritage Health Care Center, Utica NY.

Garth was born on August 15, 1913 in Waupun, Wisconsin, the son of Lynn C. Gray and Genevieve Donovan. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1937 where he earned a Doctrine of Law. He was united in marriage with Alice Reid on June 12, 1938 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Alice entered into heaven on June 16, 1982. On October 1, 1989 Garth married Maria Scollino Gorea in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York City. Garth was employed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and with Nassau County in Mineola. While residing in Garden City, Long Island, he was a active member of St. Anne’s Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus both in Utica at Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Anne’s Church in Garden City. Garth was closely involved with the Democratic Club in Garden City.

Garth is survived by his beloved wife, Maria of Utica. He was the cherished father of Sarah Jill Gray of Delray Beach, FL. Jane Gail Germaine Gray of Yogaville, VA and Janet Genevieve McCabe (deceased), father-in-law of Joseph McCabe; cherished stepfather of Brad Gorea, Aldora Wentworth, Angela Pate and Joseph Gorea, Jr.; dedicated brother of L. Curt Gray (decreased), Madge Lohr of Portage. WI and Donna Townsend of Janesville, WI; loving grandfather Kiersten and Jeff Konikowski, Colin and Casey McCabe. He was a loving uncle to the Reid and Gray families especially Patrick Gray and Dr. Michael Reid and loving step grandfather to Bradford, Heather and Christopher Gorea, Mark and John Redmond, Colleen Johnson, Amanda and Christina Lipscomb, Shawn Gorea and Stacy Baker.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Kohl Community Funeral Home.
