Strikers Fall To Shooting Stars

The Garden City Strikers U12 girls soccer team came up on the short end of a 2-1 outcome to the Oceanside Shooting Stars last Saturday. The Shooting Stars are the top team in the Strikers' division and entered the game without having allowed a goal all season.
After a scoreless first half, Oceanside mounted a strong attack in the final 30 minutes and finally pushed a goal past Maggie Comiskey, who was excellent in goal for Garden City. Oceanside made it 2-0 later in the second half on a corner kick.
In the game's waning moments, Liz Stutzmann broke in alone and scored to make it 2-1, ending the Shooting Stars' shutout streak.
The Strikers are now 4-2-1 in the league, 7-2-3 overall.
Garden City returns to action on Saturday at St. Paul's. Game time is 10:40 a.m.
