Happy Tigers After Topping Huntington
Happy Tigers After Topping Huntington Playing two road games over the weekend was doubly special for the Garden City Tigers Girls U-10 travel soccer team. On Saturday, the Tigers visited Soccer Park in Plainview for a game against Port Washington, coming away with a solid 6-0 win. On Sunday, the Tigers traveled to Huntington and won on the road again, 2-0. Melanie McHugh started in goal in the first game and Kayla Murphy the second and neither were really challenged as the defense of Emily Schlapp, Kathleen Demaria and Lauren Mixon was solid in both outings, allowing no more than a handful of chances and few shots over the course of the two games.

In the game against Port Washington, the Tigers went up early on a goal by Kelly Punturo, Ali Montgomery and Tara Walsh, and Kelly O'Donnell added two goals in the first half for a 5-0 halftime lead. Maggie Rogers scored the final goal for the Tigers, and Stacy Madelmayer and Lauren Mixon assisted on goals. Against the Huntington Team on Sunday, the defense and goal tending were tough once more. The goalies were Kayla Murphy and Maggie Rogers. Playing the whole way at defense were Lauren Mixon, Emily Schlapp and Kathleen Demaria. The goals were scored by Kelly Punturo and Ali Montgomery in a game that wasn't as close as the score would indicate.
