On November 4, the Stewart Manor PTA is presenting Supermarket Fun Night at the Stewart Manor School gym. Doors open at 6 p.m. and a $5 donation includes admission, 2 boards, a chance for a door prize, coffee and dessert...Also on Friday, November 4, at 8 p.m., Dr. Herbert Pinedo will offer the Nathan Ackerman Memorial Lecture at Temple Emanuel of Great Neck, 150 Hicks Lane, Great Neck. Elizabeth Hyde from the Department of Dietary at the North Shore University Hospital, will host a lecture, "Importance of Eating Your Fruits and Vegetables: Understanding Phytochemicals," on Wednesday, November 16, at 7 p.m. in the hospital's Rust Auditorium, 300 Community Drive, Manhasset...The Irish Cultural Society is holding a meeting on November 8, 8 p.m., at the GC Public Library, 60 Seventh Street, Garden City. The topic is "The Brooklyn Irish: 1850-1900." The speaker is Steve Sullivan who is writing on this topic for his doctorate degree at Columbia University...

On November 16, 10 a.m., there will an Association of Piano Teachers of Long Island meeting at the GC Community Church, Stewart Avenue and Whitehall Blvd. The guest speaker will be Jeffrey Biegel who will conduct a master class covering the music of Gershwin and Shostakovich...

Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem

On November 1, 11:43 p.m., a LILCO pole came down and hit a car on Franklin Avenue at Hamilton Place/Cedar Place. Luckily the driver of that car, a 25-year-old New Hyde Park woman, was not injured. The pole also forced two other poles to lean toward the ground there and police/ firemen closed the area off for the next 13 hours...Also on November 1, 5:09 p.m., an unattended suitcase was the source of alarm at the north side of the Stewart Manor RR station. County Emergency Services, the MTA Canine Unit responded to the area as well as local police and firemen. The suitcase was found empty... On October 28, 6 a.m., Police officers Wedra and Hennessy observed a car traveling with a defective headlight on Washington Avenue and after a check, determined that the car had stolen plates on it; reported missing from the Third Precinct as of April 30. The occupants of the car were placed under arrest and the car was impounded. Upon an inventory for impoundment, a loaded shot gun was found in the rear of the car and a 9 mm gun, with a loaded clip next to it, was also found in the glove compartment. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old Uniondale male, was charged with 2 counts of felony weapon possession, stolen plates and numerous traffic violations. His partner in crime, a 31-year-old man from Hempstead, was arrested for 2 felony weapon possessions and another charge of felony weapon possession for a prior felony conviction...

A truck stop was conducted on Washington Avenue on November 1. 10 trucks were inspected with 3 trucks taken out of service and 53 tickets issued... Police conducted holiday patrols on October 31. One call was where a 16-year-old male allegedly damaged an ornament on Brompton Road at 9:41 p.m...On October 31, 3:51 p.m., PO Stolz arrested a 22-year-old Westbury man who had an open Nassau County bench warrant for petit larceny... Between October 30 and 31, someone damaged a lamp valued at $150 , at a Cherry Valley Avenue residence... On October 28, another truck stop was conducted at NHP Road. 15 trucks were inspected, with 5 trucks taken out of service; 1 for overweight. There were 77 tickets issued...

Also on October 28, someone took a wallet containing credit cards and $10 in U.S. currency, at the Blodgett Hall building, Adelphi University... PO Oswald, while on patrol on Stewart Avenue, at 3:35 a.m., on October 30, observed a car, which was positioned against a pole there, with its driver fast asleep and the car still running. The man, a 24-year-old from Far Rockaway, was arrested for alleged DWI ( .16% )...On October 21, a 37-year-old Hempstead woman allegedly stole 2 pairs of Context jeans and a Context tank top, with a total value of $114, at Lord and Taylor...On October 27, 4:10 a.m., PO Oswald arrested a 29-year-old Hempstead man for alleged DWI (refusal) on Meadow Street...

Fire Responses:

A water leak occurred at a Kensington Rd. house on October 26...There was a natural gas leak in the road at Nassau Blvd. on October 27... The FD assisted a Kildare Rd. resident with water flowing from heaters on October 28... A Lee Rd. resident was advised to call Cablevision for repairs when wires came down there on October 29...On October 30, there was an alarm for a possible fire at a Third Street residence. Leaves were found burning near a basement window well. A pressurized water extinguisher was used and electric was shut off...On October 31, a discarded cigarette could have been the possible cause of a small pine needle fire at the roads of Chestnut St./Magnolia Ave...
