2005-11-04 / Community

Studies have shown that heart disease may be prevented or reversed, yet it's the number one killer of Americans. Find out steps you can take now to minimize your family's risk.

Winthrop-University Hospital's Women's Health Forum will present a free lecture, "Heart Healthy: Protecting Your Family," on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 7:00 PM. Held at Winthrop's Community Outreach Center at 101 Mineola Boulevard at the corner of Second Street in Mineola, the program will focus on studied recommendations that can help you protect your family from heart disease.

George Gubernikoff, MD, Director of Clinical Cardiac Services at Winthrop, will discuss the role of diet in preventing and possibly reversing heart disease, focusing on the benefits of a Mediterranean-style diet and the Lyon Diet Heart Study. Other heart-health guidelines will be addressed, including the significance of exercise and stress management. A question and answer period will follow the lecture.

Attendees are asked to arrive at 6:45 PM for registration and to park in the rear of the building. Admission is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. To reserve your seat, please call 1-888-53-WOMEN.

The Women's Health Forum is a community health education program coordinated by Women's Health Services, part of Winthrop's Institute for Family Care. For information on other free community education programs offered at Winthrop, call 1-866-WINTHROP.
