Thunder White 9's Scalp Mineola Chiefs

2005-10-28 / Sports

The Thunder White 9 "No Surrender" defense and "Thunder Road - Born to Run" offense returned to glory days as they thoroughly dominated the Mineola Chiefs from both sides of the ball.

Mineola won the toss and started on offense. The Thunder defensive line off Connor Riedel, David Gage, Conor Byrnes, Albert Soussis, Liam Byrnes, Timmy Halaby, Jack Connors, Jack Reina, Anthony Velez, Robert Wotczak, Michael Cassano, Thomas Leggett and David Gage came at Mineola from the opening play and didn't slow down until the final horn. Linebackers Anthony Kritis, Danny Miller, Danny Dolan and Kieran Byrnes along with Corners Joey Burdi and Brian Tully provided the ground and air support that prevented Mineola from even entering into Garden City territory.

The Thunder White "Born to Run" offense got off to a fast start with a Danny Miller run for 25 yards behind the strong blocking of Jack Connors, Cullen Minion, Timmy Halaby, Rob Wotczak, Brian Tully, Conor Byrnes, Liam Byrnes, Joey Burdi, Kieran Byrnes, and Danny Dolan which was immediately followed by a 32 yard sprint to the end zone by Danny Miller. Timmy Halaby followed up this touchdown with a 28 yard burst of his own to make the score 12 - 0. Jack Connors kicked in with a blast through the middle good for 20 yards to bring the tally to 18 - 0. In all, twelve players got their hands on the ball including Anthony Kritis, Albert Soussis, Anthony Velez, David Gage (for a first down), Rob Wotczak, Brian Tully with a long dash, Kieran Byrnes with a nice grab over the middle, Danny Dolan and Liam Byrnes.

The defense played strong and steady with nice tackles by Mike Cassano, Connor Riedel (on successive plays), Jack Connors, Tommy Leggett, Jack Reina, Thomas Reina, Conor Byrnes, Albert Soussis, David Gage, Anthony Velez, Liam Byrnes, Kiernan Byrnes, Danny Miller, Danny Dolan and Anthony Kritis and Joey Burdi with Brian Tully making a highlight reel interception and long return.

Bottom line: the boys put together their best game of the year with everyone getting a chance to participate and contribute. They will be working hard in the coming week as they prepare for the final game of the regular season against a tough Hempstead squad.

GO THUNDER !
