The Recreation Department, in cooperation with Winthrop University Hospital, the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, and Nassau County Medical Center, will conduct a flu immunization program for the senior residents of Garden City on Tuesday, December 6 th. This program is offered with no out of pocket costs for participants.

The flu shot program will be held at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. As stated, there is no out of pocket cost for this program, but participants should bring his/her medicare card and each should have their social security number with them as it will be needed to fill out the forms.

To participate in this program, you will need to pre-register. Pre-registration will begin on Tuesday November 1 st at 9 a.m. Garden City residents aged 60 and older that are interested in receiving a flu shot MUST call the Recreation Department at 465-4075 beginning November 1st for an appointment.

Senior Recreation Group Events

The following workshops for our senior residents will take place at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane:

Monday, October 31 st - Mindy Levine, R.D., a nutritionist with the Nassau County Department of Senior Services, will lead an informative workshop on Nutrition for Seniors. Learn about everyday choices in nutritious eating that can fortify your health.

Monday, November 7 th- Representatives of Nassau County HIICAP will present up to date information on the new Medicare Part D Prescription plan for seniors. They will provide answers to questions about your choices involving Medicare Drug Plans.

Monday, November 14 th - No meeting - special program in building

Monday, November 21 st - Rosalind Mohr, Director of Outreach and Programming at Nassau County’s Department of Senior Enrichment will present the “Vial of Life” program offered by the town of Hempstead. This important information can be vital in protecting and maintaining your well-being in case of medical emergencies.

Monday, November 28 th - 9:00 a.m. - due to the overwhelming response to our 1 st workshop, a second Computer Kindergarten® workshop is being offered. Become computer literate in a ‘user-friendly, hands-on, supportive environment. Space is very limited and pre-registration is necessary. Please contact the Recreation Department at 465-4075 to register for this beginners’ workshop.

All seniors aged 60 and over who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are invited to attend these free programs. All programs will take place during our Senior Recreation Group meeting on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Garden City Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane unless otherwise stated.
