GCHS Accreditation Review
At the October 17th Board of Education Meeting, Dr. Robert Feirsen, Superintendent of Schools, congratulated the high school on successfully completing the process required for continued accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Secondary Education.
The Middle States Accreditation process at the high school began in April 2004 when the Middle States Association forwarded an information package as well as questionnaires to facilitate the program. Each department formed a committee to evaluate its programs and needs. Following this self-examination, the committees developed goals; a comprehensive proposal was then presented to the Board of Education and Superintendent. The high school committee refined the document based on suggestions received at the Board presentation. The revised plan was approved.
An evaluation team from Middle States conducted a three day visitation on April 19, 20, 21, 2005. The review team reviewed the Garden City High School’s Mission Statement and Goals. Members spoke with teachers, students, community members and staff. Time was spent observing and assessing in the classroom, at activities and on tours of the entire building.
The Middle States Review Team has submitted a report to Hank Hardy, Garden City High School Principal, with commendations and recommendations. During the next five year period, the review team will make visits to the high school to note the progress toward goals.
Garden City is one among the 3,500 education institutions throughout the Middle Atlantic States and throughout the world that is holding themselves accountable for meeting internationally recognized and accepted standard of education quality.
