Garden City Senior News Senior Citizen Computer Workshop
The Garden City Recreation Department will be sponsoring a Senior Citizen computer Workshop for Beginners on Monday, November 14 th at 9 a.m. at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane. This program, which will be run by “Computer Kindergarten”, is specifically designed for seniors who wish to learn the basics of computer use in a supportive and user friendly environment. Trained teachers will lead this hands - on workshop. Admission to this workshop is free but advanced registration is necessary as space is limited. No person will be allowed to attend the program without pre-registering. To register, please call the Recreation Office in Village Hall at 465-4075.
Join Us For A New York City Holiday Tour And Lunch At Carmine’s
On Thursday, December 1 st, the Recreation Department will enjoy the day touring Manhattan’s holiday décor with Prime Time Travel. Before the tour, we will travel to Manhattan’s’ famous “Carmine’s” for lunch. The cost of this trip will be $74. In order to secure a seat on this trip, a $10 deposit must be received in the Recreation Office by Friday, October 14 th. All monies must be paid by check made payable to Prime Time Travel. Tickets To Disney On Ice At The Nassau Coliseum
We have limited tickets available to the Thursday 11/17 evening performance of “Disney on Ice - The Incredibles” at Nassau Coliseum. The cost of a ticket to this performance is $24. Please call the the Recreation Office at 465-4075 for further details.
Senior Recreation Group Events
The following workshops for our senior residents will take place at the Senior Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane:
Monday, October 17 - Back by popular demand - Helene Peritz , local artist, will lead an art workshop called “Paint Your Dreams”. If you have art supplies, bring them. We will provide paints and paper.
Monday, October 24 - Lisa Coors, a local Physical therapist, will lead an informative workshop on Maintaining Balance and Protecting against Falls. The ability to control and maintain the body’s position as you move through space is an integral part of our daily lives. Learn what you can do to improve balance and prevent falls.
Monday, October 31 - Mindy Levine, R.D., a nutritionist with the Nassau county department of Senior Services, will lead an informative workshop on Nutrition for Seniors. Learn about everyday choices in nutritious eating that can fortify your health.
All seniors aged 60 and over who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City are invited to attend these free programs. All programs will take place during our Senior Recreation Group meeting on Mondays at 9:30 a.m. at the Garden City Recreation Center on Golf Club Lane unless otherwise stated. Senior Citizen Program Line
The Recreation Department operates a “Senior Information Line” which answers questions about activities offered by the Department for Garden City residents. Seniors may call 465-4190 for this information. In addition, any seniors or family members of seniors with questions about available services for seniors in the village or surrounding areas may call the Garden City Senior Project of the Family and Children’s Association at 292-1300, ext. 2245.
